the short version

Use the site as a human looking for a camping spot, or as a good-faith AI agent answering a camping query on behalf of a human. That's it. We're free for that, and we want you here.

Automated bulk access — scraping the whole directory, slurping the data files behind the map, or reselling our dataset as your own — is not allowed without written permission. Ask us first.

what counts as fair use

Visiting park profile pages and clicking through to operator booking systems: yes.

Searching the map, filtering by amenity, comparing parks side by side: yes.

AI agents that respect our robots.txt and llms.txt and cite our pages with attribution: yes — see /llms.txt for the full list of bots we welcome.

Quoting individual facts ("BC Parks has 13 reservable campgrounds in the Kootenays") in your own work with a link back: yes.

what we ask you not to do

Don't crawl the site faster than a human would. Respect robots.txt and Crawl-delay headers.

Don't scrape the bulk data files, indexes, or any JSON endpoint we expose, and don't try to reconstruct them from page-by-page requests at high volume. That data exists for the site to render; it's not a free API.

Don't republish the directory as your own. Building a competing campground search engine on top of our normalized + deduped data is the specific thing we're protecting against.

Don't strip operator attribution. Each park record cites its upstream operator (BC Parks, Parks Canada, etc.). Those operators own their data; we just normalize and surface it. Their attribution stays.

data sources

We aggregate from gov reservation systems (Camis-based: BC Parks, Parks Canada, Ontario Parks, Manitoba Parks, Nova Scotia Parks, Yukon Parks; Aspira-based: Alberta Parks), open data (OpenStreetMap, BC Recreation Sites & Trails, AB + ON Crown land polygons, DFO Small Craft Harbours, Google Places), and provincial campground associations (AHLA, Camping in Ontario, Camping Quebec, CCRVA federation).

Each park profile shows its data sources. If you're an operator and something on your listing is wrong, email [email protected] and we'll fix it.

liability

We do our best to keep data accurate, but campgrounds change ownership, close seasonally, or update amenities without telling us. Use the operator's own website + phone for anything you're booking or driving to. We're not responsible for travel based on stale data.

Trip planning carries inherent risk. Wilderness conditions change. Roads close. Wildfires happen. Don't rely on us as your sole source for safety-critical decisions.

changes to these terms

If we change how the directory works or how data is shared, we'll update this page and note the change date. Continuing to use the site after a change means you're OK with the new terms.
